1st Sergeant Retired Bobby Joe Woodruff, 86, of Weatherford, passed away Saturday, June 15 at his home. Visitation will be held from 5 P.M. - 7 P.M. on Friday, June 21st at Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 N. Elm Street, in Weatherford. Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held at 9:30 A.M. on June 22nd at the funeral home. Burial with full Military Honors will take place at Hill Cemetery near Brock, TX. Bobby was born on Christmas Day, 1932, in Brock, Texas to Marion and Ella (Nall) Woodruff. He married Darlene Mader on March 6, 1953 and together they had 3 children. Bobby was a career U.S. Army Soldier where he served for 26 years including two tours in Vietnam and two deployments to Germany. During his career, he was also stationed at Fort Bliss and Fort Hood. In 1979, he retired as a 1st Sergeant. Bobby’s distinguished career included the Combat Infantry Badge, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Silver Service Star, Republic of Vietnamese Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and the Presidential Unit Citation. Additionally, he served in the Texas National Guard. He was a member of the local American Legion. Bobby will be remembered for his sense of humor and his jokes that were often disguised as “true stories”. Bobby, Darlene and friends enjoyed RVing across the country, visiting all 50 states and Canada. He also enjoyed going to garage sales and could be found at First Monday Trade Days every month for almost 30 years trading, wheeling, and dealing. He also enjoyed attending the once-a-month National Guard Coffee. Bobby never met a stranger and he will be missed by all. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents. Bobby is survived by his wife, Darlene, of 66 years; his children, Lanny Woodruff, Christie Hemby and husband, Mike, and Sharla Wilson and husband, David; his grandchildren, Jason Woodruff and wife, Amanda, Stefanie Delgado and husband, Roy, Colin Hemby, Holton Hemby, Marinda Wilson, Kaitlin Wilson, and Sarah Wilson; 4 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Don Woodruff and wife, Madelene and Leon Woodruff and wife, Mary; and his nieces and nephews.
