Bob Ray Hickman

Bobby “Bob” Ray Hickman, age 86, of Weatherford, passed away Saturday morning, December 14, 2013 in a Weatherford nursing center. Bob was born May 25, 1927 in Paoli, Indiana. The 7th of 8 children. He was the 2nd boy in Paoli to obtain Eagle Scout status, Bob graduated from Paoli High School and was immediately drafted into the United States Army at the end of WWII. He served in Japan as a medical technician. Bob received 2 medals in WWII, The Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. He obtained Expert Status Certification with the M1 rifle. After an honorable discharge form the army, he returned to Paoli and married his bride of 65 years, Mary Fears. He graduated from Indiana Teachers College in 1951 and taught science for one year at the Junior High level. He and Mary and their young son came to Texas after he accepted a position with the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Executive. Several years after moving to Texas they added a daughter to their family. In 1990 Bob retired from Chemical Dynamics, now Weatherford Aerospace, located in Weatherford. During his retirement he enjoyed wood carving, gardening and serving as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts. He started a Boy Scout Troop and enjoyed training the leaders to work with the boys. Bob served as a Parker County Precinct Chairman during several elections.  Mr. Hickman was also a proud member of the Phoenix Mason Lodge #275 in Weatherford TX where he obtained the title of Entered Apprentice.
 He is survived by his wife of 65 years; Mary Hickman,  son; Phyllip “Phyl” Hickman, daughter and son in law; Aaron and Judy Wade, all of Weatherford, sisters; Jean Crowe of Illinois and Patty Thompson and husband Scott of Evansville, Indiana, three grandchildren; Allison Darelius and husband Jason of Baltimore, Maryland. two grandsons, Nelson Wade and wife Lindsay of Weatherford and Michael Wade and wife Jolene of Weatherford, three great grandchildren; Andrew Wade, Lilyan Wade and Brooklyn Wade.
 

Graveside Service: 10:30am Wednesday,
December 18, 2013 at Zion Hill Cemetery.

Visitation 9:00 am Wednesday
before service.
