Billy Dale Rowney

January 2, 1953 — March 11, 2021

Billy Dale Rowney was born on January 2, 1959, in Fort Worth, Texas. He was the oldest son of M.D. and LaVerne Rowney.

Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 P.M., on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at the Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 N. Elm Street, in Weatherford. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 1 P.M., on Friday, March 19, at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at the Poolville Cemetery.

His family moved to Poolville when Bill was in junior high and he graduated from Poolville High School in 1971. In school Bill was involved in athletics, agriculture activities, and just having fun. He was well liked by his peers and teachers alike and has maintained his closest lifelong friendships with those he met in school.

Bill worked for his dad in the family business, Rowney Excavating, which he continued the rest of his working life. He was a master of large machinery from dump trucks to bulldozers, backhoes to loaders and was meticulous at his work no matter how large or small the job. Over his career, he developed a reputation for good and honest work. In a time long before social media, his business grew and flourished by word of mouth from his many satisfied customers. Many of these customers also became good friends who called him first when they needed work done.

Bill’s hobbies included annual hunting trips for many years with his high school buddies as well as fishing trips too. He also enjoyed going out for a good meal with good company too. Another favorite pastime for many years was a good game of dominoes. He was a good player and loved to win.

Bill was also a homebody who rarely ventured farm from home. If you dropped in, he would offer you a drink, something to eat and a seat to watch one of his favorite western shows were always on the TV. The only way to lure him out for a night of fun was good seats at a ZZ Top concert.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Beth Rowney, his sons; Billy of Weatherford and Brian of Poolville, sister; Marilyn Johnson of Andrews, South Carolina, brother; M.D. Rowney III and wife Gina of Poolville, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.
