Betty Lou Cooper

On Thursday, May 21, 2020, Betty Lou Shaw Cooper passed away at the age of ninety. She will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, and friend. Betty was born on January 13, 1930 in Weatherford, TX. to George Thomas Shaw and Carrie Belle Parsons Shaw. She was raised in Spring Creek and received her formal education in Spring Creek, Weatherford, and Weatherford College. She was employed by the Bell System, the county office of the Justice of the Peace, Bergman, Grogan, Newberry, and Rothrock Insurance Agency, and the county office of District Clerk. She will be best remembered as the “face” of the Cooper peach farm, where she worked tirelessly for over thirty years, while maintaining her responsibilities at her place of employment. On July 23, 1949, she married James William Cooper, Jr. Together they raised four daughters, Lana Kay Cooper Broom, Linda Gail Cooper Sarratt, Brenda Joyce Cooper Daniel, and Donna Beth Cooper Powell. Betty had a passion and love for people and for life itself. Her first love was her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She also loved people with whom she demonstrated unconditional acceptance of who and what they were. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, singing, playing the piano, and playing her favorite domino game of 42.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her father- and mother-in-law, her husband, her eldest daughter, her two sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Betty is survived by her three younger daughters, their spouses, her seven grandchildren, their spouses, her eight great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held, Saturday, May 30, 2020, at Emmanuel Church (2910 Bethel Road, Weatherford, TX 76086) at 2:00 p.m. A commemorative video will be viewed prior to the service. A coffee, tea, and dessert reception will be held in the gym, immediately following the service.
