November 14, 1935 — May 3, 2016

Betty Cooper Koenig, 80, of Weatherford Texas, was welcomed into Heaven’s Gates to meet Jesus on May 3, 2016.  She passed peacefully surrounded by the loving, caring friends and staff at Holland Lake Nursing Center.  Betty (Monk) was born November 14, 1935 in Atlanta, Georgia.  She married the boy next door and happily resided in Southern California raising her family and sharing happy hours side by side with husband John.  Together they mentored young men in Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts of America, enjoyed the beauty of nature through adventures in camping, hiking, traveling the United States, gardening and bird watching.  Betty was also a gifted quilter who spent many hours on her creative designs for family and friends.  In 1992 she and John relocated to Texas where they built their home known as “Camp Koenig”.  Her life was full with family, friends and church.  She was a Prayer Warrior for anyone in need, at any time.  She spent many years as an active member at Harvest Church in Watauga, dedicated to the prayer ministry and church landscaping.  A devoted wife of 61 years she was preceded in death by her husband and best friend John.  Survivors include: sons: John Koenig Jr. and wife, Beverly; Steven Koenig and wife, Sherri; grandchildren: Ryan Koenig, wife Bridget and great granddaughter Enna; Nicole Koenig; Joshua Koenig and wife Chelsea; Crystal Garner; Christopher Rader; sister: Colette Green and husband John; nephew: David Green and wife Naty; honorary daughter Cindi Starr; and faithful pet Daisy.  The family would like to thank the staff at Holland Lake Nursing Center for their loving care of Betty during the closing chapter of her remarkable life.

In lieu of flowers, Betty asked that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org. Betty’s memorial service and John & Betty’s internment at the DFW National Cemetery are pending.
