Bess Ayleen Smith

Bess Ayleen Smith, 79, passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, October 27, 2022. Bess was born February 24, 1943, to Stanley Herbert Threet and Linnie (Whitaker) Threet in Brownfield, Texas. She married Charles David Smith (Smitty) in Brownfield, Texas, on September 26, 1958. She and her family relocated to Weatherford after living in Paris, Texas and Granbury, Texas. She was employed at Jamak for 20 years. After retiring from Jamak, she and her husband, Charles (Smitty) Smith, owned Smitty's Equipment for 20 years. Bess delighted in being a homemaker, and thrived on spending time with her three sons and their children and grandchildren. Family and making memories were her priorities in life. She always looked forward to an annual trip to the Texas Hill Country to see the beautiful bluebonnets. Bess was a member of Faith Community Baptist Church in Weatherford. Her memory will be cherished by her family, friends, and community.

Bess is survived by her sons, Virgil Summers and wife, Maureen, Charles W. Smith and wife, Gail, Stoney Smith and wife, Pam; seven grandchildren, Rusty Summers, Daniel Summers, Eric Smith, Quinn Smith, Myriah Dávalos, Katie Rodriguez, and Theodore Smith; and eight great-grandchildren, Ryder Summers, Darius Summers, Jupiter Summers, Ivy Summers, Millie Thiebaud, Emma Smith, Eliana Rodriguez, and Audrey Rodriguez; sisters, Lois Ritter, Ruth Barton, Mary Barton, and Brenda Bundy and husband, Richard; and numerous loving family and friends.

Bess was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Charles Smith; and two sisters, Letha Briggs and Mickie Miller.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 North Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086, with interment to follow at Poe Prairie Cemetery, in Millsap, Texas. Pastor Craig Beaman will be officiating.

The family will receive friends during a visitation on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 North Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086.
