Anita Sue Berryhill

Anita Sue “Suzi” Allen Berryhill was joyfully reunited with her loved ones and Lord in heaven on May 17, 2022, after 76 years well-lived. Anita was born on September 22, 1945, to Arthur William Allen and Carrie Leola Shields Allen and she was dearly loved in her small hometown of Seminole, OK. Though her health was failing for quite some time, few people knew the extent to which she struggled. Her joy for life and extraordinary spirit kept her pushing through the pain.

Anita always had a smile on her face and a story to tell. She has been described by many as classy, fun-loving, kind and generous. Anita took pride in her occupation. She worked at Bridgestone Tire for more than 20 years before retiring in 2000. She was always giving of her time, resources and love to friends, family and neighbors not out of obligation but because of who she was.

Anita loved garage sales, collecting antiques and was an amazing cook. The simplest pleasures brought her great joy such as savoring a cup of coffee outside and having tea parties with her granddaughters. She was a country music lover, always proud to declare her love for Alan Jackson. Her absolute greatest joy in life was being “Gramal Suzi,” and while she only officially had one child, two grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren she will be remembered as a surrogate mom and grandma by many.

While Anita remained active in her retirement, the loss of her husband, H. Ray Jackson in 2003, was a devastating blow. Her family grieves her loss, but they take comfort knowing that Anita & Ray are together again. She was also preceded in death by her parents Art and Leola Allen; former spouse Charles M. Berryhill; sister Louetta Vannoy; and many special pets including her beloved Snooks.

Anita is survived by daughter, Brandi Vannoy and Thomas Cox; grandchildren, Brittani and Jaythan Browning, Maddison Riggie and Cory Kulhanek; and great-grandchildren, Scarlette and Sutton Browning, Eloise and Brayden Kulhanek. Anita’s greatest love was her family, and all of her children and grandchildren were proud to call her “Gramal.”

A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Her wishes were that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Christ’s Haven for Children in Keller, Texas.

Anita will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family would like to leave you with the following poem:

If Roses grow in Heaven
Lord, please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my grandma’s arms
and tell her they’re from me.

Tell her that I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for a while.

Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
but there’s an ache within my heart
that will never go away.
