Alice Margaret Miller

April 25, 1925 — March 29, 2022

Alice Margaret Miller, 96, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, in Willow Park, Texas. Alice had only recently moved to Willow Park and had been a longtime resident of Denton with husband, James "Jim" Miller.

Alice was born April 25, 1925, in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania and was the only daughter of Edward LaMar and Annie (Whitfield) Hoke.

Alice graduated from Newport High School in Newport, Ohio in 1942. Her first job was supporting the WWII war effort as a Clerk/Typist at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. In 1944, with the war effort winding down, she left this job and enrolled in the Grant School of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio. She graduated as a registered nurse in 1947. By 1948, she was working as a nurse at the San Antonio Hospital in Kenton, Ohio.

In 1949, she met the love of her life and future husband Jim. They were married September 11, 1949. Alice worked at 2 hospitals in Lafayette, Indiana while Jim completed his course work at Purdue University and began teaching. In 1953, they moved back to Kenton along with their first-born son Jim Jr. Then, in 1954, their second son, Jack, was born followed by their daughter Allyson in 1956. Alice, Jim, and the family then moved to Tallmadge, Ohio and then to Milford, Maine. In 1976, Alice and Jim moved to Denton, Texas as Jim had accepted a position in the College of Education at the University of North Texas.

In 1986, Alice graduated from Texas Woman's University in Denton with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fashion Design and Textiles. From 1986 through 1988, Alice worked as a Pattern and Dress Designer at the high-end woman's apparel company called FOSHA in Dallas.

Alice loved to oil paint and participated in local art shows in Denton. She also enjoyed sewing, playing bridge, reading and crossword puzzles. Alice had a fondness for people and loved chatting with family and friends alike. She loved Maine and the little cabin that she and Jim owned on Lake Sebasticook.

Alice is survived by her son, Jim Jr. (Linda) Miller of Newport, Maine; her daughter, Allyson Miller of Portland, Maine; her son, Jack (Ruth) Miller of Willow Park, Texas; and granddaughters, Emily (Wills) Ward and Hannah Miller of Fort Worth, Texas.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents; and her four brothers.

Alice will be interred with Jim at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on April 25, 2022, at 2:15pm.
