Robert Patrick O'Boyle

February 4, 1940 — February 5, 2018

Robert (Bob) Patrick O’Boyle passed away after a brief illness on the morning of February 5, 2018. A native of Pennsylvania, he was devoted to all teams from Pennsylvania. On Sunday, February 4, Bob watched the Eagles win the Superbowl and went to sleep singing Happy Birthday to Me! It was his 78th birthday.

Bob was the first of four children born to Robert Patrick and Jessie Barbara Novinski O’Boyle. He was born on February 4, 1940 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. As a young man, Bob served as an altar boy for St. Aloysius Church. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and he studied piano. He wrestled in high school. Once he obtained a driver’s license, he frequently provided transportation for his younger brothers and sister, often to clean the field at the family owned drive-in theater followed by swimming trips at local lakes and pools.

After graduation from Hanover High School in Hanover Township, Pennsylvania, Bob enlisted in the Air Force at age 17. While in the Air Force, he attended the Air Force Community College and studied Electronics Engineering Technology. He served as a Bomb Navigations Technician and Aircraft Control and Warning Radar Repairman in his early service years. He was later promoted to Superintendent of the Precision Measuring Equipment Lab and held that position until his retirement as a Senior Master Sergeant after 24 years of service. He received numerous individual and unit citations, decorations and medals from the Air Force and the Army during his career.

While stationed at Carswell AFB in Fort Worth, he met and married Myrna Morton Kirk. They shared a fairytale life together as they traveled the world. They lived in Asia, Holland, Germany, Honolulu, and various bases in the continental United States. They enjoyed cruising with Bob’s family, visiting Myrna’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and gambling in the casinos in Laughlin and Las Vegas, Nevada. They had 43 years of love and devotion before she passed away seven years ago.

Five years ago, Bob was diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus. He endured four and a half years of treatments that at times was brutal. He beat the cancer by sheer force of will. For the past 6 months, he worked as hard on recovering his strength and vitality as he had on beating cancer. He was as inspiration to friends, family, and some folks who hardly knew him, but knew his story. Bob was sweet, generous, and kind. He was a much loved and adored man. His passing leaves a hole in our hearts.

Bob was preceded in death by his father Robert Patrick O’Boyle; mother, Jessie Barbara Novinksi O’Boyle; his wife, Myrna Morton Kirk O’Boyle;
and grandson, Michael Kirk. Bob is survived by his brothers, Charles O’Boyle and wife Lorraine and Ron O’Boyle; his sister, Kathy Kwasny and husband Barry; stepchildren, Gunda, Jimmy, Jackie and Kennith Kirk; and by 7 nieces and nephews; 7 grandchildren; and by fourteen great-grandchildren.

Viewings will be at the Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel in Weatherford on Friday, February 23 from 6 until 8 with a Rosary by Deacon Scott, and again on Saturday morning form 9 until11. Father Publius will conduct the Mass at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Parish Church in Aledo on Saturday, February 24 at 1 P.M. Deacon Scott will conduct graveside services at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas on Monday, February 26 at 9 A.M.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Angel and Hank Miller for the love, support and fun they brought into Bob’s life. We also want to acknowledge his sister-in-law, Linda Gaskill who always sent him card and never missed his birthday or Christmas. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested you give a gift to someone you love.
