Robert Lawrence Young

On Tuesday, March 6, 2018, Robert Lawrence Young severed the bonds of this beautiful Earth and of his loving family and joined his Holy Father in Heaven. This gentle and giving soul is now at peace.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2 P.M., on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the Newberry-Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1301 Newberry Road in Millsap, Texas. Burial will follow at the Newberry Cemetery.

Rob was born April 8, 1962 in Kerrvlle, Texas to Dr. Joel E. and Gayle H. Young. He attended schools in Dallas; graduating from Zion Lutheran school and then from Bryan Adams High School in 1980. During his school years he was a member of the YMCA Indian Guides and, later, the Boy Scouts of America wherein he attained the rank of Eagle (1976). He graduated from New Mexico Military Institute, Roswell, NM in 1982. He served in the United States Army Reserve from 1982 to 1990, commissioned as 2nd lieutenant, promoted to 1st lieutenant in 1985. He trained and served with the 387thEngineers as Platoon Leader/Nuclear-Biological-Chemical Protection Officer.

Rob had many talents and abilities from computer construction, repair and programming, photography and videography, teaching in his fields of specialty, including safety and efficiency in the workplace to design
and construction of various models and devices. He was rewarded by his former employer, Lehigh Henson Company, “for the finest video and film productions, and work created for the web.” He did similar work for his
last employer, Moneygram.

He won a blue ribbon for his original model of the “Starship Enterprise” at the State Fair of Texas. He also spent a lot of time traveling to Albuquerque to visit his daughter and her husband and their children who called him “Granpa Texas!”

Rob is survived by his children, Marilyn Gayle and her husband, Christopher Grubbs, and Raymond Lawrence Young and wife Raquel, and their mother, Elaine Medina Young, former wife, Rosaland Young, by three grandchildren, Giuliana (Gigi) Grubbs, Christian Grubbs and Jack Riley Young; his parents, Joel and Gayle Young; his sister, Ginger Anderson and her husband, Mark; and his brother, Randy Young and wife, Christy; and his niece,
Sarah Anderson; and nephews, Nathan, Justin and Jonathan Young.

Rob was baptized in the Casa Linda Presbyterian Church,
Dallas, Texas March 27, 1975.

Memorials in remembrance of Rob may be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital; Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s Home, or to the charity of your choice.
