Lorraine Eleanore Krogness

Lorraine Eleanore (Olson) Krogness, age 98, passed away on February 28, 2018, at Martin Crest Assisted Living Center and Memory Care where she had been on hospice. Lorraine was born on February 5, 1920 in Homestead Township, Richland County, near Wyndmere, North Dakota to Emma Cornelius and Gustav Olson, (Swedish immigrants). She was received as a child of God through Holy Baptism and affirmed her faith through Confirmation /Affirmation of Baptism at Wyndmere Lutheran Church, Wyndmere, North Dakota. Lorraine attended rural country school, graduated from Wyndmere High School, and then from Valley City (NDak) State Teachers College. She taught in a rural one room schools, as well as the first Wyndmere school system. On June 9, 1947, she married Norman Krogness a returning WW II veteran and son of a neighbor family. Lorraine and husband, Norman, made their home on the (His family) Krogness farm (Ed and Hannah Krogness, Norwegian immigrants) “one section” or 640 acres. Here they farmed and raised their family continuously until 1979, due to her husband’s health. They had purchased a winter second home in Brownsville, TX making them “snowbirds”. In late 1980’s, Lorraine and Norman made their permanent residence in Brownsville, TX; and in 2009, Lorraine moved to Weatherford, TX to be closer to family. Lorraine was very active in community and church life. She sang in the church choir, participated in church Ladies Aid and bible study Circle, and Sunday School teacher. Lorraine was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary as a lifelong member. In her later years, Lorraine was a hospital volunteer at St. Francis Hospital, Breckenridge, MN and also, at Valley Regional Hospital, Brownsville, TX. She enjoyed dancing, her morning walks, reading, gardening, and baking. Lorraine is remembered by her family as very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother making joyous memories through daily example of faith in the saving grace of Jesus Christ carried through love in action. Lorraine is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Norman; her son, John; her parents, Emma Cornelius and Gustav Olson; brothers, Leslie, Gordon, LaVerne, and Milo Olson; and sister, Norma (Olson) Pearce. She is survived by two daughters: Linda (Bill) Tischner, Osseo, MN and Mary (Dale) LeBeck, Weatherford, TX; Daughter-in-law: Rebecca Krogness, New Braunfels, TX: Six Grandchildren: James (Maria) Tischner, Rogers, MN; April (Paul) Stadtler, Rockville, MN; Carl (Allison) Krogness, Ft. Worth, TX; Ann (Joey) Guerrero, San Antonio, TX; Kaaren (Jason) Gant, Milsap, TX; and Suzette (Casey) Read, Georgetown, TX. Also, elven great-grandchildren: Luke, Violet, Mae, Hattie, Gabrielle, Sidney, Maddison, Zoe, Eli, Hannah, Ryker.

A Celebration of Life, memorial service will be held at 10:30 a/m., on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Messiah Lutheran Church, Weatherford TX. Interment will be at Elk Creek Cemetery, Wyndmere, Richland County, North Dakota. Instead of flowers, the family has requested that those who wishing to remember Lorraine may do so to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America “Fund for Leaders” https://community.elca.org/fundforleaders , to Messiah Lutheran Church, Weatherford, TX, or the Perpetual Care Fund of Elk Creek Cemetery, Richland County, North Dakota.
