Jerry "Chris" Tanner

September 23, 1963 — April 17, 2017

Jerry Christopher Tanner went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 17, 2017 at his home in Dallas, Texas. Chris was born to Jerry Don Tanner and Sandra Jo Hasley Tanner on September 23, 1963, the second of two sons.

Chris loved and cherished his family, especially fishing with his son. Chris gave the best hugs and has been described as a “comedian, story teller, coach, diving board, singer, adventurer, outdoors man, football player, friend, movie buff, historian, tour guide, driving instructor, chauffeur and a wealth of both useless and useful knowledge. He was a man who enjoyed the scenic route, he was so many things.” He will be remembered as all of these. We have sustained a great loss. Mr. Tanner graduated from Sam Houston High School, Arlington, Texas in 1982, where he lettered in football. He received a scholarship to play football for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, at the position of center. His accomplishments included assisting the Red Raiders in competing in the Independence Bowl. He was later invited to participate in the Hula Bowl in Hawaii. He graduated with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in 1987.

He is survived by his daughter, Caitlan Elyse Tanner Wren and her husband Josh, granddaughter, Lynnlee Joyce; his son, Kyle Christopher Tanner; his mother, Sandra Jo Hasley Tanner; brother, Tracy Lee Tanner and wife Geneva and his nephews, Daniel and Andrew Tanner; his uncle, Michael Truett Hasley and wife, Sharon; cousin Bradley and sons, Zachary and Nicholas; cousin Brian and wife Jennifer, sons, Brandon and Dylan; cousin Jeffrey and wife Catherine, and sons, Daniel and Nathan.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Don Tanner, his grandparents, Claude Truett Hasley and Virginia Thoma Hasley, Mary Beth Carroll Davis and William Noah Tanner and his beloved great grandmother, Nannie Carroll.
