Elwanda Meeker

March 12, 1930 — January 9, 2018

Elwanda Meeker, 87, of Azle, Texas, went to be with her Lord early on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 2 P.M., on Friday, January 12, at North Side Baptist Church, 910 N. Main Street, in Weatherford. Visitation will be held from 1 P.M. until the time of the service, Friday, at the church. Burial will follow at the Asbury Cemetery in Tolar, Texas.

Elwanda was born on March 12, 1930, in Bomerton, Texas to James Oscar and Nannie Eliza Warren. She met her future husband (better known as Sugarlump or "my boyfriend"), Harold O’Dell Meeker, when he sang in the Lone Star Quartet. They married on September 15, 1948 and together had 4 children. Elwanda was a school counselor in the Peaster, Millsap, Poolville, and Brock School systems for most of her adult life and was a basketball coach.
Elwanda enjoyed singing, baking cookies and brownies for her grandchildren, traveling, and was known for her decorating during the Christmas holidays. She was also known for her love of flowers and for always giving floral bouquets to her friends, neighbors and church members. She always had a smile on her face and never knew a stranger. Most of all, Elwanda will be remembered for her love and devotion to the Lord and to her family. Her husband, Harold, was always “high on her list.” She lived out her life as the hands and feet of Jesus - always serving others and helping to meet their needs, both physically and spiritually. She always asked, "What can we pray for?" or "What can PawPaw and I do for for you?" As scripture says, "Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her." Proverbs 31:28 KJV

Elwanda is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 69 years, Harold O’Dell Meeker; her children, Jackie O’Dell (Jeanny) Meeker, Daniel Harold Meeker, Wanda Lynnette Meeker, and JD (Lady B) Meeker; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and by her brother, Marion (Judy) Warren.

In addition to her parents, Elwanda was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters.
