David Edward Simmons
March 15, 1940 – February 8, 2018
David Transcended from this life on February 8, 2018. This beautiful soul was raised in a faith filled home and gave his life to the Lord as a teen. He was a lifelong resident of Weatherford and a Member of Prince Memorial AME Church. He attended Mount Pleasant Colored school until 9th grade. He graduated from the historic I.M. Terrell High School and received his Barber’s license from Barber College in Ft. Worth. David met and fell in love with the former Miss Roberta Trishell of Louisiana. They became Husband and Wife at his Mother’s home in Weatherford, his Brother Pastor Louis Simmons officiated this Holy Ceremony in July 1962. They brought 7 children into the world. He was a budding entrepreneur and a Jack of all trades. A philanthropist of nourishment, wisdom and humor. He was a proprietor of a barbershop for several years, in addition, he worked as a Custodian at several schools and businesses, ran a shoe-shine stand and was a Chef. David was known for his flavorful meals and his succulent BBQs. He would prepare and give away meals to the known and unknown alike. He also was a well versed prevailer of growing roses and landscaping. He was able to dish out his humorous wit and his keen wisdom on par of dishing out food. He was also ahead of his time with recycling and repurposing. He leaves behind, the troubles of this world; along with his legacy of kindness, wisdom, humor and love!

He leaves behind: (Wife of 55 years) Roberta Simmons, (Sons)- Nathan Simmons (Wife- Tammy Simmons) & David Noah Simmons, (Daughters)- Dover Blue (Husband – John Blue), Rolanda Simmons Roberts and Jade Simmons. Grandchildren- 15, Great-Granchildren-3.
(Mother) Dover Simmons Lewis, (Brother) Rev. Louis Simmons, (Sister) Valvree ‘Val’ Kerr & Husband- Lonzo Kerr, (Brother) Ralph Simmons & Wife- Diane Simmons, (Brother) Charles ‘Charley’ Simmons & Wife- Esther Simmons and (Brother) Carl Fred Simmons, and other numerous Relatives.

Floating from my grasp
Penetrating the atmosphere
Into Heaven’s gate.
Now Present at our Master’s feet
Leaving us with- the morning dew
Glowing and glistening
